The "pony car," the first of the muscle cars, was named after the successful World War II fighter airplane, P-51 Mustang, first rolling off the manufacturing floor in 1964. Considered part of the first generation of Mustangs, before Ford decided to bulk up the body, keeping its more sportscar-like physique. Bill Shepherd has felt the call to the race track since a young age and was hooked and started racing in the 1970s and was quite successful. After an eight year hiatus, he found his way back in 1986 realizing the potential of older cars and were easier on the pocket book, finding success in his niche. He saw decades of success in historic racing, he is now working and racing side by side with his son Fred at Bill Shepherd Automotive. This #47 Ford Mustang is currently a force to beat in historic racing as it was restored for the 2014 Goodwood Revival Shelby Cup and continually under development to make it a flawless machine.
