On the Ecuadorian coins there may be these portraits of Vicente Rocafuerte (Former President of Ecuador), Simn Bolvar (Former Prsident de la Grande Colombie), Isidro Ayora (a former Ecuadorian president), Antonio Jos de Sucre (Venezuelan independence leader who served as the fourth President of Peru and as President of Bolivia. Sucre was one of Simn Bolvar's closest friends, generals and statesmen), Eugenio Espejo (a medical pioneer, writer and lawyer), Juan Montalvo (author and essayist), Jos Joaqun de Olmedo (President of Ecuador, a patriot and poet), Eloy Alfaro (politician who served as the President of Ecuador from 1895 to 1901). There also may be symbols of the La Tolita culture (mask of the solar deity) and some buildings: a monument Ciudad Mitad del Mundo and a statue of the Valdivia culture (Venus de Valdivia).
